Economics
Formed in 2018, the Economics Team is responsible for producing economic researching reports while aiding the Investment Team with any economic inputs.
The Economics Team consists of a group of hard-working university students collaborating to bridge the gap between the university curriculum and real-world application of economics. The aim of the team is for students to further their economic understanding and with the help of mentors, explore what a career in economics might entail.

Investment
The Investment Team is responsible for the management of our live equity fund.
The SMIF Investment Team is a community of high-achieving university students from an array of different backgrounds. The aim of this team is to develop an overall understanding of the real-world financial markets and explore the possibilities of profitable investing at both the individual and professional scale.

OPERATIONS
The Operations Team is responsible for organisation of all essential club activities.
Members of the Operations Team are the brains behind creating, managing and running the SMIF events. They are in charge of the admin work behind the scenes, creating promotional material for all our events and keep the club running smoothly and in an organised fashion.

a bright spark at UWA
The UWA Student Managed Investment Fund was founded by a group of driven and enterprising students from The University of Western Australia and was officially affiliated by the UWA Student Guild on the 13th of March 2014. The Club aims to establish UWA's first Student Managed Investment Fund as an internationally recognised professional and premier student organisation, with a key focus on professional and personal development.
We want to provide students at UWA with opportunities to experience fund management within a controlled, safe and risk-free environment. Members will be able to apply the theoretical knowledge taught in the University curriculum and learn more about Trading and Analysis through directly managing a live fund.
The Student Managed Investment Fund initially managed a live portfolio of equities through its Viburnum partnership, which allowed students practical learning opportunities in investing and portfolio management.
Members of the Investment team research and analyse stock, before taking a position in the stock. Members of the Economics team conduct industry research, before pitching an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF).
UWA Student guild's best new club of 2014
Reaching the lecture theatre capacity of one of the the largest lecture theatres on campus, drawing students from not just UWA, but all around Perth is testament to the success of UWA SMIF.
